There is a beautiful song by Dana Glover titled "It Is You (I Have Loved)". You may recognize it, because it was on the soundtrack to the movie Shrek. We were living half-way across the country from each other the summer that movie came out in theaters. By total coincidence, we ended up seeing it on the same night and it became one of our favorites - mostly because of the laughter it causes, but also because of the lovely storyline. Two unlikely "people" finding love in an unexpected way.
Since we loved the song, we asked our friends to sing it as a part of our wedding. Now we find it remarkable how the words have carried us into the next chapter of our life - the adoption of our children. It is our hope that someday the words will resonate with them too as they look back on their life with us, remembering "it is you [we] have loved all along."
